WOODLORE TREE TOUR WITH LEVI O’BRIEN

Get to know the trees of Fernwood in a whole new way with visiting tree expert, Levi O’Brien. Explore the vast history and cultural significance of a variety of tree species and learn how they have shaped humanity through the ages. You’ll observe and discuss how the physical and aesthetic characteristics of each tree, its wood, and other component parts, have led to its place in each culture that has encountered it. Discover why locust and pine win naval battles, how Judas turned the flowers red, how roller skating changed the industrial textile industry, and more!

About Levi:

Levi O’Brien is a dendrologist, garden, and arborist consultant, an expert on all things tree and wood related, and above all, an educator. He is a faculty instructor at the New York Botanical Garden and the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, a traveling lecturer and tour-leader, a writer, and a green-woodworker. He spends most of his time avidly pursuing knowledge about horticulture, ecology, arboriculture, and wood history, structure, and use, to make it available to the public.

Audience: Teens & Adults - This program involves walking outdoors on paved and unpaved paths. Please wear appropriate footwear and notify us of any mobility concerns.
