Nature Camps

Fernwood’s forests, pond, river, and prairie
serve as the classrooms for these popular day
camps. Hikes along nature trails, fun games,
educational activities, and crafts open children
to the wonders of nature while encouraging
appreciation of the plants and animals of
Michiana. All sessions run Tuesday
through Friday.

In-person and phone registration for the 2008 Nature Camps opens on Friday, May 2 at 10:00 am. Class size is limited. Class details are sent out approximately two weeks before the sessions begin. If you have any questions, call Fernwood and ask for Nature Day Camp Director Jill McDonald at ext. 222, or email.

Fernwood would like to acknowledge Martin's Supermarkets for their sponsorship of the 2008 Summer Nature Camp. This donation helps defray the cost of snacks, beverages, and food for the overnight camping trip.

Roy and Ethelbel Knauer Art Camps

Join us in welcoming Katie Jaskowiak as our new Art Camp Instructor! Katie is an art teacher for school students in Boone Grove, Indiana and she is excited about providing a very artistic and fun summer for your creative children. Fernwood’s Roy and Ethelbel Knauer Art Camps combine the arts with natural sciences and are designed to stimulate curiosity, appreciation, and knowledge of the natural world. Campers use Fernwood’s beautiful gardens and natural areas to inspire the creation of diverse mixed media projects including ceramics, tie dye, drawing/painting, sculpture, and much more. On the last day of each session parents are invited to a gallery showing of all the children's wonderful creations. Art Camp is an ideal complimentary course to Fernwood’s Nature Camp. All sessions run Tuesday through Friday. Children should dress for getting messy and having fun.
