Curious Coyotes: 
Endangered Species

Children 6–10 learn about the threatened and endangered species that live in our backyards. Please dress for walking the trails.

Although no longer living in Michiana, wolves are amazing creatures to study. Learn more about the largest members of the canine family. For children ages 6-10. Please dress for walking the trails.

Nature Saplings
1:30–2:30pm

Children ages 2½ to 3½ with an adult enjoy an introduction to nature.
$5 (Members $4) per child/adult pair

Knee-high Naturalists
1:30–3:30pm

Children ages 4 and 5 explore the woods and gardens to learn more about nature. Please dress for walking the trails.

Check out a backpack on your next visit!
Thanks to a grant from the Jewish Women’s Endowment Fund of the Jewish Federation of St. Joseph Valley, families visiting Fernwood can borrow backpacks with activities to do while exploring the grounds.

  • The birds backpack includes binoculars, field guides, and checklists.
  • The gardens backpack contains scavenger hunts, books on plants and flowers, an insect field guide, and a bug box. 
  • The preschoolers backpack helps kids explore with their five senses and contains mystery smells, pictures, magnifiers, books, etc.
