Welcome to Fernwood Summer Camps 2019! We are excited to welcome returning and new campers to our programs starting in June (see schedule below).

Registration is sponsored and hosted by UltraCamp, based in Niles. If you are new to Fernwood camps, parents will need to set up an account that will serve as their registration portal and the home for all necessary camp forms. We encourage you to do this before registration opens to simplify the process (see below for information to have ready). Registration must be done by the parent/legal guardian as they are required to sign camp forms and releases. For returning campers, parents can just log into their existing UltraCamp account and proceed with registration and account updates. Click here to go to the Fernwood UltraCamp page.

If you need to take out a Fernwood membership or renew your membership, please do so here before you proceed with camp registration. You will need to have a Member Code (different from the number on your membership card) to enter to receive the member discount on camp fees – please call Fernwood in advance to receive it.

For individuals other than the parent/legal guardian who want to pay for the child's camp, either provide your credit card information to the parent/legal guardian or reimburse them afterwards for the cost of camp. Another option is to purchase a Fernwood Gift Card for the amount of the camp fees; please contact Head Naturalist Wendy Jones in advance of registering for instructions on how to pay by this method.

Registration for Fernwood members opens on Tuesday, April 2 at 10:00am; for non-members on Tuesday, April 9 at 10:00am. Enrollment is limited and programs fill quickly, so early registration is strongly encouraged. Please check back with this page on Fernwood’s website regularly for updates.

Fernwood’s Nature Camps are headed up by Seasonal Naturalist Corey Hopwood and Nature Camp Assistant Kelly Bickel. Head Naturalist Wendy Jones oversees the Art Camps, which are taught by long-time teachers Katie Jones and Patti Baltazar. Corey, Kelly, and Wendy can be reached at  or 269-695-6491 ext. 221 if you have any questions.

What parents are saying about Fernwood's nature day camps:

"In this day of "media saturation" of our children, I treasure the time my child can spend in the beauty of Fernwood and exploring all you offer."

"I must say you all run the best camps around by far! How well organized they are, everyone that works does an excellent job."

Roy and Ethelbel Knauer Art Camps

An ideal complementary course to the Jon Meyer Nature Camps, Fernwood’s Roy and Ethelbel Knauer Art Camps combine the arts with natural sciences and are designed to stimulate curiosity, appreciation, and knowledge of the natural world. This year’s theme is “Favorite Books, Inspired Art,” with campers taking inspiration from Fernwood's gardens and natural areas to create projects that include drawing, painting, tie dye, sculpture, and much more, all rooted in favorite childhood books. On the last day of each session parents are invited to a gallery showing of all the children’s wonderful creations.

What parents are saying about Fernwood's art day camps:

"Wonderful art programs, teachers, beautiful locations."

"My son gets a chance to express his individuality in each project and really likes being a part of the final presentations."

Drawing from social emotional learning and mindfulness meditation practices, games, eating, and creative movement, this camp allows kids to unplug from technology and refresh themselves from a busy school year. Each day, we'll share nature-based projects, build attention skills, and have the chance to practice mindfulness with friends and community in a retreat setting. On Tuesdays parents will have the option to take their own yoga class and learn mindful parenting skills. Healthy snack included with mindful eating tips.
