Volunteer Educators Schedule

Want to share the magic of nature with children? Join our Volunteer Educators Corps, receive training on natural history and the Fernwood trails, then assist with our numerous school group visits. Contact naturalist, Wendy Jones, for more details.

Volunteer of the Year 2018

The Volunteer of the Year Award was created in 2009 to recognize Fernwood's outstanding volunteers and is named for its first recipient, Joanne Sims of Lakeside. Joining Sims on the list of recipients have been photographer, Phil DeVore of Sawyer, past board president, Johanna Money of South Bend, former Niles attorney, Chris Lynch, Lynda Pelkey of Berrien Springs, Barb Dragomer of Berrien Springs, the Michiana Unit of the Herb Society of America, Phyllis Carlson of Niles, Dick Niemi of South Bend, and most recently, Fernwood Librarians, Jody Crandall and Jeannine Davie. Fernwood currently has more than 250 volunteers who logged nearly 9,000 hours this past year in various capacities.
